OSUN 2026: The Scarcity of Truth in a Nature Full of Lies – Tadese

Indeed, when lies dominate, people lose the ability to dream honestly and believe in anything beyond their own survival. In an age filled with desperation, distraction, and manipulation, truth has become an exceedingly rare resource. We now live in a world where fiction masquerades as fact, and deception disguises itself as diplomacy, strategy, or even leadership.

Truth once served as a compass—guiding societies toward justice, stability, and direction. Today, however, truth is endangered. In its place, half-truths, misinformation, and blatant lies have taken center stage. People lie for power, profit, and popularity—especially politicians who desperately attempt to reshape their tarnished images. Institutions lie to conceal failure. Leaders lie to maintain control over their followers. Sometimes, even we lie to ourselves merely to find peace at night.

The scarcity of truth amid abundant lies has never been clearer than in the sentiments currently expressed by the people of Osun State. They feel misled and misinformed by the leader who danced his way into power as Governor, only to discover that everything was mere packaging and deceit.

As the state anticipates future political developments, the landscape is rife with discussions about the direction of governance. The 2022 election brought Governor Ademola Adeleke to power under the PDP banner. Yet, his tenure has been marked by a lack of significant economic growth, inconsistent governance, unfulfilled promises, ineffective handling of security issues, and ongoing political turmoil.

However, politics in Osun State has never been a quiet affair. From grassroots mobilization to elite political maneuvering, the state is known for its politically active and often divided electorate—from selecting party candidates to general elections.

The 2026 gubernatorial race is already gathering momentum, resembling an epic battle, with aspirants actively seeking consultations to secure their party’s ticket, particularly within Nigeria’s most reliable and dominant political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Nevertheless, the truth remains that not all aspiring contestants harbor genuine aspirations. Some merely contest to manipulate internal party dynamics, engaging in desperate maneuvers built upon lies.

Still, it is not that people no longer know the truth; rather, many no longer care. Truth is now measured by convenience instead of conviction.

Lies have become the currency of influence. Politicians craft polished speeches filled with imaginative strategies and impressive scope. Unfortunately, this culture doesn’t merely tolerate lies—it often rewards them in politics, which should not be the case. Those who manipulate best are considered “smart,” while those who expose the truth are labeled “betrayers.” Integrity is mistaken for weakness, honesty for naivety.

The downfall of some individuals began the moment they embraced lies and distrusted everything, driven by excessive ambition. Skepticism replaced hope, cynicism became their lifestyle, and relationships fractured under the weight of suspicion. Such mindsets inevitably lead to moral decay. Thus, do not hastily take sides without understanding the full story, as some individuals are adept at making others appear villainous.

We may have been surrounded by a world full of lies in the past or present, but the beauty is that we are not inherently products of that environment.

In contemporary politics, truth may be scarce due to the ways some individuals choose to engage. Nonetheless, it is not lost. The critical question remains: are we still brave enough to seek, speak, and live by it? The truth, no matter how scarce, will always prevail over the loudest lie.

Given the current administration’s approach of putting all its eggs in one basket, all eyes are on the APC. The party must listen attentively to the aspirations of the Osun people and present a candidate from Osun West Senatorial District who possesses the right credentials, experience, and qualities to lead effectively. This individual must resonate with the people, understand their concerns, and possess a proven track record of dedicated service.

His Excellency, the former Governor and current Honourable Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, remains a pivotal figure within APC affairs in Osun State. His leadership strength in guiding APC has demonstrated that overcoming challenges becomes achievable when effective leaders guide committed followers.

I firmly believe our party, APC, along with its leadership, will present an appropriate candidate to unseat the current administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke. They will select someone capable of collaboratively working with party leadership to uphold and strengthen party structures statewide.
