Wizkid Drops Emotional Sixth Album, ‘Morayo,’ in Tribute to Late Mother

Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Ayodeji Balogun, known as Wizkid, has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Morayo, a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Jane Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.

The 16-track album, now available on streaming platforms, includes hits like Troubled Mind, Karamo, Kese (Dance), Bad Girl, Time, Piece of My Heart, and Pray, with collaborations from Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, Anaïs, and Tiakola.

In June, Wizkid shared a personal message with his fans, revealing that Morayo was inspired by his mother’s love, calling it an emotional and deeply personal journey. “My album ‘Morayo,’ dedicated to my mum, the love of my life, drops very soon. Don’t dull. Don’t sleep,” he said.

Ahead of the album’s release, Wizkid teased fans with the track Piece of My Heart featuring Brent Faiyaz, which broke records on Spotify with 1.01 million streams on its first day, making it the first African song to achieve such a milestone.

Wizkid’s rise to global fame is a testament to his talent and perseverance. From his early days in Surulere to becoming the first Nigerian musician with over a million followers on X, his career has been a journey of breaking boundaries.

Among his many accolades, Wizkid made history as the first Afrobeat artist to appear in the Guinness World Records in 2018 for his contribution to Drake’s One Dance. His track Soco also became his first Afrobeat single to be certified Gold in Canada.

With Morayo, following his earlier albums Superstar (2011), Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017), Made in Lagos (2020), and More Love Less Hate (2022), Wizkid continues to cement his place as one of the biggest names in music.
