The resignation of the immediate past Presidential spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale, has been mired in controversy.
Ngelale claimed he was leaving the role due to health reasons. However, many Nigerians believe otherwise.
Below is the full text of Ngelale’s statement:
“On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, informing him that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to directly address medical matters presently affecting my immediate family.
While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonizing decision — entailing a pause in my functions as the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Official Spokesperson of the President, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was taken after extensive consultations with my family over the past several days, as a challenging medical situation at home has worsened.
I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate allow.”
Following the resignation, various individuals have taken to social media, claiming that Ajuri was either forced to resign or unable to bear the demands of the position.
However, Chief Ajuri respectfully asked for privacy for himself and his family during this time.
