“Didn’t you receive a car gift from APC gov’t,” Workers dare Arapasopo, Osun NLC chair – By Adekunle Alao

Osun Workers Union ( OWU) have again lambasted the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) in the state, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, describing his response to the Union’s initial press statement as pathetic, hollow and simplistic.

The Union had accused Arapasopo and his counterpart in the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) of using the labour platforms to incite the workers to disobey the rule of law and constitution of Nigeria.

Specifically, OWU accused Arapasopo of being a beneficiary of car gift distributed to selected civil servants during the administration of ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

However, rather than addressing some of the issues raised by the Union, Arasposo was said to have, in his characteristic roguish manner, gone low, calling OWU “hungry and thirsty attention seekers.”

In a statement issued on Friday by the Organising Secretary of Osun Workers Union (OWU), Comrade Gabriel Adeoye challenges Araposopo to disclose to the public whether the previous government did not reward him with a car.

“We state once again that Comrade Christopher Arapasopo is playing a risky chess with the welfare of the Osun workers by politicising the running of the Congress. His statement calling the workers to disobey the judgment of the Court of Appeal reinstating sacked chairmen of local governments is unpatriotic and contemptuous. The reckless behaviour has no regard for the grave consequences on the well-being of the workers.”

Adeoye adds, “If not for personal gains, why should any sensible Nigerian plot to ground public health centres and primary schools in order to make a political point? Why should anyone politicize health and education sectors as Arasposo and other lapdogs in the NLC and NULGE are scheming?

Adeoye maintains that Araposopo has lost the grip of the Congress as workers are now murmuring, questioning his leadership style and motives.

“The earlier he realises that the rank and file of the workers are no longer comfortable with his leadership, the better for him.”

OWU once more cautions “the NLC and NULGE leadership to shelve the plan to force health workers and primary school teachers to join the ongoing strike in the state as the move is capable of worsening the challenges faced in the health and education sectors in the state.”
