Oyetola and his methodical approach to politics, governance – By: Ismail Omipidan

He may not be loud. That is his nature. No one can change him. Achievement responds to strategy, not rhetoric anyway. He has always excelled in every position he finds himself, including the current one as the minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

Yes, he is calm. Leadership is not about empty boasts and jankara style. It is about tailored results. And to get such results, one needs a calm and calculated leader because if you have a leader that is unnecessarily excited, you run into problems.

So far, he has demonstrated leadership by keeping the party intact in the state, in the last three years, to the extent of attracting personalities like Omooba Dotun Babayemi and Baba Shuaib Oyedokun and hundreds of thousands of their followers to the APC.

In the past, once a party loses power, members disintegrate and only try to come together when another round of elections is approaching. But not with Oyetola. He has proven that the accolades he got while he served as Osun Governor from 2018 to 2022, was no fluke.

They say he doesn’t know politics. Yet, he is beating the so called sophisticated and traditional politicians to their games.

Only this afternoon, the battle he led quietly since 2022, yielded positive fruit for Osun APC.

The Osun State Government under his leadership conducted an election. The Court of first instance nullified the election. Rather than follow through the legal process till the end, up to the Supreme Court, the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, employed extra-judicial means to sack the council chairmen based the first judgement. Whereas, when he was sacked by the Tribunal as governor, he remained in office until the case got to the Supreme Court. That’s the standard practice.

Anyway, Oyetola appealed to the sacked Council Chairmen to follow the path of law and due process. He wasted no time to assemble lawyers, funded the litigation singlehandedly, and today the Court of Appeal, sitting in Akure has reinstated the elected APC Local Government officials who were previously sacked by Governor Ademola Adeleke, and has ordered their immediate resumption of office.

Now, I hear that they are rushing to file stay of execution. Filing of stay does not in any way amount to granting of same. I advise the government to provide the conducive atmosphere for the LG officials to resume, while the litigation continues. Anything outside that would amount to an invitation to chaos.

Osun Sha Rise Again!
