Arrest Mewolaka Now For Cyberbullying, Threat to Life: Publisher Petitions Police

A political commentator and publisher of City Express News, Mr. Taiwo Olaore, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone II, Osogbo, alleging cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and threats to his life by a social media influencer, Mrs. Omolola Fasakin, also known as Mewolaka.

In a formal petition dated January 28, 2025, and submitted by his legal representatives, Oyetayo & Co., Olaore claimed that Fasakin launched a smear campaign against him on social media, defaming his character, posting misleading statements, and attaching his photos without consent. The petition details how the controversy began after Olaore commented on a political issue unrelated to Fasakin. According to him, Fasakin allegedly took offense, launching a series of defamatory posts that sought to tarnish his reputation.

Beyond the online attacks, Olaore’s lawyers allege that a group of hoodlums, suspected to be acting on Fasakin’s behalf, stormed his residence in Segudu Community, Boripe Local Government, disguised as security officers. The attackers were reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, including guns, acid, and machetes, with the intention of harming Olaore and his family. “The situation was only prevented from escalating into a tragedy by divine intervention,” the petition stated.

In response to these threats, Olaore’s legal team demanded a public apology and retraction from Fasakin, but she allegedly refused to comply.

The petitioner called on law enforcement to take immediate action, citing concerns that similar social media defamation cases had fueled political unrest in the past.

The petition urged the police to investigate Fasakin’s activities, highlighting the psychological distress her actions have caused Olaore and his family. Legal experts warn that cyberbullying and defamation cases are increasingly becoming a tool for character assassination in Nigeria’s political space.

Olaore’s lawyers are now pressing for a full-scale investigation, emphasizing the need for authorities to clamp down on politically motivated online harassment and intimidation. When contacted, Fasakin was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.
