Osogbo-Agenda For 2026 is Selfish – Osogbo Leader, Muniru Raji

…Says Town’ll Wait Till 2030 To Speak With One Voice

A prominent Osogbo leader and stakeholder, Alhaji Muniru Raji, has questioned the proponents of governorship zoning to the town, declaring that Osogbo is not ready to produce governor in 2026.

Speaking at a gathering of Osogbo indigenes focused on the community’s development, Alhaji Muniru, who is also the in-law of the Ataoja of Osogbo, described such an agitation as self-serving, saying the town should aim for unity before pursuing political ambitions.

“Osogbo is not ripe for a governorship push now. We need to put our house in order first,” Alhaji Muniru stated in a video that has since gone viral on social media. He suggested that 2030 would be a more realistic timeline for Osogbo to come together and speak with one voice.

Rather than campaigning for individual aspirations or engaging in premature political maneuvers, Alhaji Muniru urged the people of Osogbo to prioritize community building. “Our focus should be on uniting our town and strengthening our foundations. Political ambition like Governor at this stage will only divide us,” he said.

His remarks resonate with a recent statement allegedly credited to the traditional leader of the town, Ataoja of Osogbo, urging the people to support the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for a second term before pushing forward for Osogbo’s own candidate. This alignment between Alhaji Muniru and the palace underscores a collective call for patience and strategy over immediate political pursuits.

According to observers, there is plausibility Muniru canvassed the anti-Osogbo agenda at the said event based on the direction from the Ataoja and the palace.

As the debate rages, one thing is clear—Osogbo’s leadership believes in playing the long game. Clearly there is no consensus about vying for the exalted office of the governor in 2026. And many believe such controversial communal dispositions may injure the chances of any political party who gambles by gifting its ticket to an Osogbo native in the coming election.
