Nigerian Vice President Shettima Mourns Dikko Junction Tanker Explosion Victims, Vows Stricter Highway Safety Measures

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State, which claimed several lives and left many injured. In a statement, the Vice President extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the Government of Niger State during this period of grief.

“I am deeply dismayed by the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State, which has claimed several lives. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families, as well as the Government and people of Niger State during this difficult time,” Shettima said.

Acting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, the Federal Government has mobilized immediate medical assistance for the survivors of the explosion. Additionally, Vice President Shettima announced the government’s commitment to implementing stricter safety measures along major highways to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Part of the measures include a comprehensive review of transportation safety protocols and a nationwide awareness campaign spearheaded by the National Orientation Agency to educate citizens on the dangers of approaching fuel tanker accident scenes.

“This tragedy is a painful reminder of the urgent need to enhance safety on our roads. The Federal Government is determined to protect the lives of all Nigerians and will take every necessary step to achieve this,” Shettima emphasized.

As the nation mourns the victims, the Vice President reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he concluded.
