The Kwara North Development Commission (KNDC) has slammed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for allegedly pledging state funds to complete projects under the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU).
KNDC described the governor’s announcement at the 59th Annual IEDPU Conference on December 25, 2024, as discriminatory and unlawful. AbdulRazaq reportedly promised to execute ongoing IEDPU projects worth at least N250 million.
In a statement signed by its President Abdullahi Mansuma and Secretary Hajia Zainabu Seko, KNDC questioned the legality of the pledge and demanded transparency regarding the funding source.
“The IEDPU is a sectional socio-cultural group exclusive to Ilorin. Why should the governor divert state resources to their projects? Will this money come from his pocket or state allocations meant for all regions?” the statement queried.
KNDC accused the governor of bias, citing neglect of similar organizations like the Patigi Emirate Development Union (PEDU), Offa Descendants Union (ODU), and Baruten Patriotic Agenda.
The commission termed the move “an outright illegality” and hinted at legal action to halt what they perceive as favoritism towards the governor’s home base, Ilorin Emirate, at the expense of other parts of the state.
