Nigerian Lawyer Lauds Enugu Governor for Prioritising Capital Expenditure, Increasing IGR

Prominent Nigerian lawyer, Faruq Abbas, has commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his exceptional governance style, describing him as “a man after my heart.”

Abbas lauded the governor’s innovative approach to governance, particularly his bold budgetary allocations and remarkable achievements in boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Governor Mbah’s 2025 budget proposal has drawn widespread commendation for its developmental focus. For instance, out of the proposed N971 billion budget, a substantial N837.9 billion (86%) is allocated to capital expenditure, with only N133.1 billion (14%) earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

Additionally, the budget dedicates 33.2% to the education sector, reflecting the governor’s commitment to human capital development.

The Osun-born legal practitioner cum politician, further highlighted the governor’s success in transforming Enugu’s economic landscape, noting the dramatic increase in IGR from N37.4 billion in September 2023 to an impressive N144.7 billion by September 2024, representing a growth of 286.2%. This achievement, he said, is a testament to Mbah’s strategic vision and effective economic reforms.

Abbas also commended the governor’s reliance on technocrats in his cabinet, revealing that 95% of Mbah’s appointees are experts in their respective fields, with only 5% being politicians. This deliberate move, Abbas observed, has set a benchmark for professionalism and results-oriented governance in Nigeria.

“With leaders like Governor Peter Mbah, Nigeria’s future is bright. His focus on capital projects and his reforms in revenue generation are exemplary and should be adopted by other governors,” Abbas remarked.

Governor Mbah’s leadership continues to resonate as a model of transformative governance, drawing admiration from stakeholders across Nigeria.
