Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has presented a proposed 2025 budget of N971.84 billion to the State House of Assembly, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to economic transformation and inclusive prosperity.

The budget, tagged “Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” marks an 86.4% increase from the 2024 budget of N521.5 billion. Presenting the budget at the Legislative Complex in Enugu on Tuesday, Mbah highlighted its alignment with his administration’s vision to expand the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

Outlining the financial breakdown, the governor revealed that N133.1 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditures, while N837.9 billion is earmarked for capital projects. Major allocations include N320.6 billion for education, N260 billion for works and infrastructure, N82 billion for agriculture, N45 billion for health, and N13 billion for sports.

Key capital projects in the 2025 budget include the completion of 260 smart schools, ultra-modern hospitals, the first phase of the New Enugu City, the dualization of the Abakpa-Opi Nsukka road, and the upgrade of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Additionally, the state will commission four bus terminals in Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Garriki, and Nsukka on December 22. Mbah also announced that the state-owned airline, Enugu Air, will launch in the coming weeks.

Reviewing the 2024 budget, Mbah noted that it had achieved an impressive 88.6% implementation rate as of October, with the state generating N107 billion in internal revenue. He expressed confidence that the state’s revenue will exceed N500 billion, pledging that no community will be excluded from the administration’s developmental plans.

In response, the Speaker of the House, Chief Uche Ugwu, assured that the Assembly would expedite the approval process. He called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure clarity by participating in the budget defense sessions.

This ambitious budget represents Mbah’s determination to drive sustainable development and elevate the standard of living across Enugu State.
