The recent campaign to trivialize the serious gun-running allegations against Nurudeen Alawonle is both disgraceful and dangerous.
Fronting as a “Concerned Civil Society,” a group of known PDP loyalists in Osun is attempting to mislead the public and discredit the tireless efforts of law enforcement. These individuals, identified as Olakunle Afeez (PDP member from Orolu and Board Director of Osun Council for Arts and Culture), Tunji Olorunfemi (aide to Pelumi Olajengbesi and PDP member from Iloko Ijesa), Olanrewaju Stephen (another PDP loyalist), and Ugwu Ezewinne Tonny, are nothing but political stooges masquerading as civil society activists.
This disgraceful act is yet another example of how the PDP government in Osun, under Governor Demola Adeleke, is determined to shield criminals from justice. It is no coincidence that, since the arrest of Nurudeen Alawonle, the state government and its surrogates have churned out over four articles pledging unwavering support for this alleged criminal.
These efforts clearly reveal a government more invested in defending criminality than in protecting the lives and welfare of ordinary citizens.
The desperation of the PDP-led government in Osun State to discredit the good work of law enforcement, particularly the efforts of Moses Lohor, is deeply concerning.
Lohor’s holistic and uncompromising approach to tackling criminality in Osun has unsettled PDP operatives who thrive on chaos and violence. Instead of supporting the police and ensuring a safe environment for citizens, the state government is hell-bent on shielding its own and undermining the rule of law. This is a direct attack on justice and public safety.
Members of the public and the media must remain vigilant and resist being swayed by the theatrics of this so-called civil society group.
It is glaringly obvious that the state government is not only complicit but actively enabling criminality through its actions. The police must stand firm and refuse to succumb to the intimidation and propaganda of the PDP government, which prioritizes its cronies over the well-being of the state.
This charade by the Osun PDP is a new low, even by their standards. A government that openly fraternizes with criminals and deploys state resources to defend them poses a grave threat to its citizens. It is time for the people of Osun to demand accountability and for the media to expose this hypocrisy for what it is—a shameless attempt to cover up criminality and undermine justice.
