Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has disbanded the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Tuesday in Abuja. This major administrative overhaul was announced via a tweet by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on Wednesday.
The statement highlighted the creation of a new Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
In another move, the duties of the Ministry of Sports Development have been transferred to the National Sports Commission, which will now handle all sports-related matters nationwide.
Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, consolidating them into one unified body.
