…Urges World Leaders to Recommit to Inclusivity
Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, addressed world leaders on Wednesday during the General Debate at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima called on world leaders to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism by strengthening relationships among UN member states, rooted in the principles of inclusivity, equality, and cooperation.
He emphasized that this approach is the most reliable way to tackle the global challenges currently confronting the international community.
Shettima also expressed concern over the rise of unilateralism and nationalism, which, according to President Tinubu, are undermining collective efforts to resolve pressing global issues.
He highlighted challenges such as terrorism, climate change, poverty, food crises, hyper-inflation, nuclear proliferation, and crushing debt burdens.
The Vice President further reminded world leaders that the United Nations embodies multilateralism, which promotes inclusivity and is grounded in the pillars of peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
