As the Edo State governorship election approaches on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed political parties to wrap up all campaign activities by midnight today, Thursday, September 19th, 2024.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, INEC reminded political parties that any rallies, processions, or media campaigns beyond the deadline would be illegal. The Commission also warned parties, candidates, and supporters against appearing at polling units in campaign attire or carrying campaign materials on election day.
INEC emphasized that the directive aligns with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, reinforcing that violators could face sanctions under Section 96 of the same act.
