On Thursday morning, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the distribution of sensitive materials for the upcoming Edo governorship election, scheduled for Saturday. The materials were being distributed to the 18 local government areas of the state.
The distribution took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) premises, located at the Akpakpava junction on Ring Road, Benin. The activity caused significant gridlock, with only one lane of traffic open on the normally busy road. Vehicles hired to transport the election materials to their destinations were already positioned near the CBN.
Commercial activities in the area were largely halted, as buses maneuvered through limited routes to navigate the area. The event attracted significant media attention, with hundreds of journalists from both print and electronic platforms gathering at the venue to document the process.
The distribution was supervised by the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Onuoha Anugbum. Speaking to journalists within the CBN premises, he confirmed that the process had begun. “We are here, and we have commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to the local government areas,” Anugbum stated.
