After weeks of speculation, the current US President stated in a letter that he will not seek re-election.
In a letter dated July 21, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden Jr. addressed the American people, highlighting the significant progress made during his tenure.
He cited historic investments in rebuilding the nation, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, expanding affordable healthcare, providing critical care to veterans, and passing significant legislation, including the first gun safety law in 30 years and the most substantial climate legislation in history.
President Biden expressed deep gratitude to the American people for their support and to Vice President Kamala Harris for her partnership. He emphasized his belief in America’s strength and unity, stating that “there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together.”
Despite his accomplishments and intention to seek re-election, President Biden announced that he would not pursue another term.
He stated that it is in the best interest of his party and the country for him to stand down and focus on fulfilling his duties as President for the remainder of his term.
He will provide more details about his decision later this week.
