Nigerian Authorities Rescue Two More Trafficked Girls in Ghana, Total Now 13 — Dabiri-Erewa

A week after rescuing 11 Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana, authorities have successfully rescued two more girls. This information was disclosed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Tuesday. She revealed that the two girls, whose names are not disclosed, are from Lagos and Edo states.Dabiri-Erewa highlighted that the rescue operation was carried out by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, led by Chief Calistu, Chairman of the NIDO Board of Trustees (BoT), and that the girls are now in safe custody. She emphasized the need for collective efforts to fight human trafficking, describing it as a form of modern-day slavery. The rescued girls are reportedly providing valuable information to help identify their traffickers. They were deceived into prostitution, and plans are underway to return them to Nigeria, where they will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).With this latest operation, the total number of Nigerian girls rescued in Ghana has risen to 13. This follows the recent rescue of 11 girls from Imo and Plateau states, who were lured with false promises of employment as salesgirls but were instead forced into prostitution.
